Abstract

The purpose of the study is to examine the impact of the effects of human resources practice (HRP) on employee engagement in Indonesia through the mediation of and perceived organizational support (POS). Recently, employee engagement has been a decline, and the organization has to take action to seek out what are the main factors that can help to stop the negative trend. Data collected using a questionnaire distributed to an individual who worked in private & public organizations in Bandung. It took 3 months to collect 350 responses. And from 250 valid participants, the study found that HRP and POS were a significant predictor of employee engagement. Employee whose perceived effective human resources practice and receive support from the organization, have stronger engagement. This study also found that POS mediate the relationship, which means that HR managers should be conducted in a way that provides convenience so that employees can perform better in their job. The limitation of the study is based on cross-sectional data and using self-reports for independent and dependent variables. The practical implication of the study is that since HRP and POS were found to influence engagement, this provides a model for management regarding important factors that can be enhanced to increase employee engagement. This study also provides a wider discussion regarding the impact of HRP and POS on engagement which still limited in a local domain. Future studies are suggested to cover more detailed participants from large organizations or certain industries to gather homogenous information regarding HRP, POS, and engagement. Besides, scholars could also implement deeper analysis using other statistical methods like Structural Equation Model. Lastly, future research can also examine other work behavior such as job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and leadership style which believed to have a great impact on engagement.

This research analysis technique uses the Moderated Structural Equation Modeling (MSEM) approach. The results of this study indicate that destination personality, self-image congruity affect behavioral intention. Also, cultural background moderating variables play a role in strengthening the relationship of destination personality, and self-image congruity towards behavioral intention. However, the cultural background has not been proven significant in moderating the relationship between destination personality and behavioral intention.

The utilized sampling technique was purposive sampling. The objects of this research are Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Data analysis in this study utilized the Partial Least Squares (PLS) modeling approach. The results showed that 1) Political risk did not significantly influence FDI for Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, but did influence for Thailand and the Philippines. 2) Financial risk reflected by macroeconomic conditions significantly influenced Foreign Direct Investment for Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. 3) The EODB rank moderated the influence of political risk on Foreign Direct Investment for Thailand but did not moderate for Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. 4) The EODB rating did not moderate the effect of financial risk on Foreign Direct Investment for all the studied countries. Abstract

One way that is widely used by many organizations in general, including hotels to survive in a business competition climate is to encourage employees to have an entrepreneurial mindset and behavior in carrying out their respective functions. The mindset and behavior must, of course, be initiated and supported by the Top Management Team (TMT) including the Functional Top Management Team (FTMT) level. However, unfortunately, some FTMT members do not have the same mindset and behavior. FTMT is like the heart of an organization and functions as a predecessor from the birth of a business strategy such as strategic alliances. In the context of hotels, strategic alliances should ideally be born from innovative ideas that are not only the responsibility of FTMT. Thus, FTMT must also play a role to encourage the creation of innovation that is in line with the organization’s vision, mission, goals, and competencies. Improving the entrepreneurial orientation of the hotel, especially the innovativeness factor is an important step to initiate the application of statistic alliances which of course the strategy should come from the ideas of the FTMT. This study tries to analyze the role of FTMT and its influence on innovation and the application of business strategies in the form of strategic alliances. Data collected from 29 4 and 5 star hotels in Surabaya were analyzed using structural equation modeling to support the hypothesis of this research. The results of this study indicate that all three hypotheses can be accepted where FTMT influences innovativeness and strategic alliance. Innovativeness also has a direct influence on strategic alliances.
